Alessandro La Spada
Born in Italy’s Reggio Calabria, to Sicilian parents, Alessandro La Spada moved to Milan to attend the IDI’AC Interior Design Institute & Ateneo Creativo institute where he took his diploma.
Afterwards he became a lecturer in Furniture Design at the same institution as well as at the Domus Academy. However, the energy and personality instilled in him by his southern Italian childhood were never far away and, in fact, these elements have permeated his entire creative life.
Today he is held as one of the most brilliant raconteurs of Italian style in the world, capable of building diverse universes from the imaginative deeds of real-life people or indeed from his own untamed imagination. Just an off-hand word from an unguarded customer might be that very word which ends up plotting the entire life trajectory of a growing company.
Eccentric and eclectic, La Spada has always been fascinated by the emotional content of objects; an avid drawer, he favours working in close contact with his raw materials and with steel in particular.
It is not by chance that he chooses to define himself as self-taught, with the air of a true artisan. For companies in the furnishings sector he designs collections that are out of the ordinary; imagines dreamlike environments and designs products that tell their own stories.
A dream and not a path to follow; style, but not an exercise in stylishness.
Among the firms with which he collaborates are, Visionnaire, Antolini, Besana, La Murrina, Longhi, Milldue and Smania Industria Italiana Mobili.
